The A.P. Delsandro Veterans Memorial in Donora will be the site of newly unveiled artwork this weekend.
The Mon Valley Leathernecks will hold a Memorial Day commemoration at the site near the intersection of Sixth Street and Meldon Avenue at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Four vibrant murals painted and designed by Brian Dumm, owner of Dumm Illustration in Ebensburg, will be shown for the first time.
Dumm is a professional artist, designer and art educator whose award-winning artwork has been published globally since 2005.
The murals depict multiple iconic images from World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam and correspond with the historic memorial plaques currently displayed at the memorial site.
Dumm’s interest in creating the murals for the Donora project was inspired by his respect for relatives who served in the armed forces including his father, a Vietnam infantry veteran, and his grandfather, who served during World War II as a bombardier aboard the B-17 dubbed the “Lucky Leven.”
