Jane Shannon Ward, 99, of Monongahela, formerly of Finleyville, died Tuesday, May 25, 2021, in Mon Valley Care Center, Monongahela. She was born June 8, 1921, in Wilson, the daughter of J. William and Mary Carolyn Smith Shannon. In her younger years, Jane was employed at the Bell Telephone Company and West Penn Power, both in Monongahela. She was an instructor for 15 years at the former Three Rivers School of Business in Uniontown and Pittsburgh. Jane also worked at the Finleyville Furniture Store. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Finleyville. She was an active volunteer at the Monongahela Area Library for many years and was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 108 in Monongahela. She is survived by two daughters, Jane Lee Long of Monongahela, and Sallie Ann Carrera and husband John of Greensburg; five grandchildren, Eugene Long, Jennifer Long, Gregory Long and wife Melissa, Katherine Carrera and husband Jason Bartz, Christine Carrera and husband Paul Salierno; great-granddaughter, Saleen Long; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Clark Ward, who died Nov. 9, 1995; daughter, Susan Lynne Ward who died Nov. 29, 2013; and a sister, Evelyn S. Schettler. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 28, 2021, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 West Main St., Monongahela, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 29, with the Rev. Kevin Young officiating. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Monongahela Area Library, 813 W. Main St., Monongahela, PA 15063, or to a charity of one’s choice. In order to provide a safe environment for all, we are asking that masks be worn inside of the funeral home.
