The Fayette County Baseball League opens play Thursday with the Mitch’s Bail Bonds Magicians playing at home.

And what a home opener it will be as Mitch’s will host Masontown at Vets Field in a 6 p.m. start.

The game will be a rematch of last year’s league championship series and a revenge match for the hosts. Masontown, the 2020 regular season champs, won the playoff crown by beating Mitch’s in a hotly-contest best-of-three series, 2-1.

The league will feature six teams as newcomer Washington joins the holdover Magicians, Masontown, Carmichaels Copperheads, Mill Run Millers and Fayette Raiders. Washington will play their home games at McGuffey Community Park.

All of the Magicians’ scheduled league games are set to be played between Mondays through Fridays.

“We don’t have any weekend games scheduled right now, which is different,” said Mitch’s long-time manager Ryan Encapera. Encapera has been guiding his team since 2006 and has been involved in the league since 1994.
