Rebels pound Trojans to advance to semis

“Head and shoulders above anyone else we’ve played against in a couple years.”

That’s how Trojans head coach Lou Pasquale described what he witnessed as Seton LaSalle showed why they’re the No. 1 team in class 2A in the WPIAL and ranked 7th in the state, in a 15-0 three-inning mercy rule WPIAL quarterfinal victory over California at Burkett Park on Friday afternoon.

“West Middlesex is the closest we’ve seen. That’s the team that beat us in the quarterfinals and won state in 2019, but these guys are right up there with those guys,” said Pasquale.

“If they don’t win it, there’s something wrong.”

The 9-seed Trojans put just one ball into play and had two baserunners aboard, bringing just 10 batters to the plate in the shortened quarterfinal game.

Rebels starting pitcher Sam Georgiana struck out seven of the 10 batters faced.

Georgiana struck out the side in the top of the first and the first batter of the second. Fred Conard reached in the second after being hit by a pitch, but was then caught stealing and tagged out for the final out of the inning.
