With a majority of COVID-19 restrictions now lifted, state Rep. Austin Davis, D-McKeesport, resumed his annual infrastructure tour of the Mon Valley this week.
Last year’s tour was canceled, but on Friday Davis and PennDOT District 11 Director Cheryl Moon-Sirianni visited Clairton, Duquesne, Lincoln, McKeesport, Munhall, West Mifflin, Whitaker and White Oak to meet with municipal managers and elected officials to discuss road issues in their communities.
“Since I’ve been elected to office, I do a PennDOT tour every year,” said Davis, a member of the state’s House Transportation Committee. “It gives us the opportunity to view critical infrastructure issues in my district.
“Each year, my office reaches out to communities in the Mon Valley to hear what road problems concern them the most. Tours like the one (Friday) open up a dialogue with PennDOT by bringing pressing safety issues to its attention and in some cases, getting them resolved.
“It also gives residents the opportunity to see we’re paying attention. Our office is close to the ground. We get the first complaints from people.”
Friday’s tour included discussions about repairing potholes on the McKeesport-Duquesne Bridge, future road projects in White Oak and keeping grass cut at intersections throughout McKeesport.
“These communities are dealing with a variety of road issues, from repaving and potholes, to speed limit signs and catch basins,” Davis said. “Friday’s tour is one of the ways I’m working to make sure concerns in my district are heard and finding solutions that can improve infrastructure and safety in our area.”
