The first phase of blight redevelopment in Rostraver Township — the demolition of two dilapidated properties in Webster — has been completed.

President of the Rostraver Township Commissioners John Lorenzo said two long-abandoned properties — one on Route 906, the other on Webster Hill — were torn down last week. Lorenzo said the house on Route 906 was in danger of collapsing onto the roadway and the house on Webster Hill presented a hazardous situation as well.

“It was posing a big danger. The septic tank was caving in. A deer had fallen into it and some neighbors got it out,” Lorenzo said. “The big thing here is safety. We don’t want to see anyone hurt.”

Lorenzo said there are about 25 properties on the blight redevelopment list. The township is working with the Westmoreland County Land Bank to bring them under control.

“In Phase II, we are working with the land bank to do six homes grouped together in Pricedale,” Lorenzo said.
