Walks and a late passed ball proved costly for No. 12 Serra Catholic in an 8-7 loss to fourth-seeded Our Lady of Sacred Heart in the first round of the WPIAL Class 2A playoffs Wednesday at North Allegheny.
With the game tied at 7-7 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Chargers (14-2) quickly loaded the bases with no outs on a bloop single by Kaylee Fabiano and back-to-back walks issued to Cassidy Fabiano and Morgan O’Brien.
As Alexis Moran faced a 1-2 count, a pitch from Serra Catholic’s Lexxie Fite sailed away from catcher Natalie Tom, allowing Kaylee Fabiano to race home with the game-winning run.
The win allows OLSH to move on to the Class 2A quarterfinals where it will face Shenango Monday at a site and time to be determined.
