Charleroi’s rally to force extra innings was not enough as Neshannock upended the Cougars, 6-4, in eight innings in the first round of the WPIAL Class 2A playoffs.

The No. 8 vs. No. 9 matchup was as close as advertised.

Neshannock took an early 2-0 lead and doubled up on it in the top of the third inning. No. 8 seed Charleroi bounced back in the bottom of the third to cut the Lancers’ lead in half. The Cougars pulled within one in the fourth and tied the game to force extra innings in the bottom of the seventh. Neshannock scored twice in the top of the eighth and held on for the win.
