Laurie Lynn Rack, 54, of Pittsburgh, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2021, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was born April 14, 1967, in McKeesport and was the daughter of L. Robert and Virginia B. Gilleland Rack of Elizabeth Township. A 1985 graduate of Elizabeth Forward High School, she obtained her bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University, her associate degree in nursing from CCAC, her bachelor’s degree in nursing, her master’s degree in nursing and her doctorate in nursing from the University of Pittsburgh. Laurie worked as a nurse for more than 30 years, primarily at UPMC Montefiore, where she was clinical director for the last 15 years. She was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan and enjoyed gardening. Laurie was known as a planner and organizer, whether it be for work, home or even Black Friday shopping. She was a kind-hearted person who was always thinking of others, whether through charity or tying scarves around poles in the Pittsburgh area for the homeless. Laurie also enjoyed going on cruises, traveling and gambling at casinos or with lottery tickets. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by parents, L. Robert and Virginia B. Gilleland Rack of Elizabeth Township; her sister, LeeAnn (Randy) Boylstein, niece, Sarah Boylstein and nephew, James Boylstein, all of Morgantown, W.Va.; her cat, Tazzy, at home; and numerous aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Louis and Pauline Rack; maternal grandparents, Edward and Sarah Gilleland; and aunts and uncles. Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at GILBERT FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 6028 Smithfield St., Boston, Elizabeth Township, 412-751-5000, Drew J. Gilbert, director. Funeral service will be held in the chapel of Gilbert Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2021, with the Rev. Thomas A. Wagner officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Cemetery, Elizabeth Township. Condolences may be made at GilbertFuneralHomeandCrematory.com.
