College is going to be a song for Elizabeth Forward senior Caedon Vogel.
The Mount Vernon teen is the recipient of a Board of Governors scholarship that will cover his tuition in full for his four years at California University of Pennsylvania as long as he is involved with the choir.
He has been taking private voice lessons for several years in addition to his participation in choir and musical theater at the high school. He is a nominee for best actor in this year’s Gene Kelly Awards for his role in “The Drowsy Chaperone.”
Elizabeth Forward High School’s Director of Choirs and Multimedia and Print Media Angie Berna Milliren said this is only the second time she is aware of an EF student receiving a full scholarship for choir.
“A 2012 graduate went to Cal U on a full scholarship for choir,” she said.
The process of applying for the scholarship was a bit different this year because of the pandemic.
“He had to do an audition. Because we are in COVID, it looked very different from a normal college audition,” Milliren said. “He produced a video of him singing, along with answering the interview questions.”
