The Roundball Classic made its return over the weekend at Geneva College after a year hiatus. More than 200 senior players from the region were invited to the showcase, and the Mon Valley was well represented on the court.
One of those players was McKeesport’s Robert Robinson, who won team MVP honors Friday night with 16 points, three assists and five rebounds in a 120-78 loss to the 6A Silver team.
“The whole thing was cool and with it being my last high school game, good memories and laughs,” Robinson said. “Also, with the crowd, it made it feel like a regular game again.”
Former McKeesport mentor Kevin Kovach was the coach for the 5A team, getting a final opportunity to coach Robinson and his son, Colton.
“I want to thank coach Kovach, he helped me a lot with staying on track with basketball and my life when times were tough,” Robinson said. “I’m thankful to have him coach my last high school game.”
Kovach was thrilled for Robinson and humbled by the opportunity to lead the young men.
“It was a tremendous honor to share the floor with so much talent,” Kovach said. “Mr. (Allen) Deep does a fantastic job every year putting on such a wonderful event.”
