Ideas offered for Palmer Park

One of the consultants working on the Rails to Trails project about the master site plan for Palmer Park talked to Donora Council Thursday.

The majority of the project is determining the feasibility of a potential Mon Valley Coal and Steel Heritage Trail that was conceived as beginning in Marianna and ending in Monongahela with a possible extension to Donora.

The secondary portion of the project is master site plan work for both Palmer Park in Donora and the Cokeburg Dam.

Gabe Hays of the WallacePancher Group, a director of landscape architecture and planning, was at Thursday’s council meeting to get members’ ideas on what they would like to see in Palmer Park.

The final project — both the site plan and feasibility study — is due in about a month and a half.

“I want to listen to you all, to hear what you think folks need in this community,” Hays said. “To hear what is under-served or not served at all.”
