Belle Vernon’s girls track team came ready to compete in its first appearance in the WPIAL Class 3A team championships Wednesday afternoon at West Mifflin Stadium.

The Leopards finished fourth, setting three school records and sporting a pair of event wins from senior Grace Henderson.

The meet started in tremendous fashion, as the first time combination of Rosalyn Perozzi, Tessa Rodriguez, Viva Kreis and Henderson finished second in the 4×800 relay, breaking the school record with a time of 9:51.79.

Henderson bounced back and forth between high jump and the 1600 with ease, blowing by North Allegheny’s Eva Kynaston in the final 100 meters to clinch the victory. The University of Akron recruit later won the two-mile as well, and placed second in the high jump, matching the winning height of 5’2” but losing in jumps.
