David W. Smith Jr., 82, of Monongahela, died Saturday, May 8, 2021, in the Premier Washington Health Center. He was born Dec. 18, 1938, in Monongahela, a son of the late David W. and Violet M. Lytle Smith Sr. Dave was a member of CityReach Church in Charleroi. He was a peacetime veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force and attaining the rank of corporal. Dave was employed by Combustion Engineering in East Monongahela until its closing in 1986. In his spare time, he liked to build and collect model trains and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan. He is survived by his wife, Violet J. George Smith, with whom he celebrated 57 years of marriage on July 1, 2020; two sons, Dean Smith of Monongahela and Jeffrey and his wife, Sara Smith of Royal Oak, Mich.; three grandchildren, Bradley, David and Joseph and his wife Emily Smith; and a sister, Violet Martin of Gastonville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Smith; and a sister, Marybell McChain. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 West Main St., Monongahela, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 13, 2021, with the Rev. Gregg Anders officiating. Interment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora. In order to be compliant with our state guidelines concerning the COVID-19 pandemic, masks MUST be worn and social distancing maintained.
