Romine Park is slated to be the centerpiece of Port Vue, according to Councilman Doug Junecko.

For more than 20 years, plans have been discussed to upgrade the park. Junecko said that in the past three years, the plans have finally come to fruition.

Improvements have included new netting for the batting cages, improved drainage to the field, new Astroturf, improvements to the parking lot and a secondary entrance. New bleachers and benches are slated to be installed in the next few weeks.

In addition to these improvements, council approved a motion requesting a $188,218 Greenway, Trails and Recreation Grant for a walking trail at the park. Council also approved a payment of $6,375 from the U.S. Steel project fund to Yarnborough Development Inc. for the completion for the secondary entrance and exit to the park.

Payments were approved for improvements in the amount of $3,418 and $3,489 to the Steel Rivers Council of Governments as the borough’s local share of the 2017 grant and 2016 grant.

Council approved $15,300 from the U.S. Steel project fund.

Yarborough Development will construct a catch basin and relocate storm water at the parking area at Romine field, grade/slope the infield and install infield mix.
