After a year off because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Charleroi Area High School students are ready for today’s fifth Bring Your Kid to Work Day.

Senior Samantha Fleming took over planning the event in 2019, and after having to cancel last year, is training Ella Sypolt and Taylor Ramsdell to take over next year.

The event was spearheaded in 2016 by former Cougar Katelynn Valla, who trained Fleming on how to lead the event before she graduated in 2018.

The event has been a hit at the district ever since.

This year’s event is open to any children, nieces or nephews ages 5 to 12 of Charleroi Area middle and high school faculty.

More than two dozen children are expected to participate this year.

With the help of student and teacher volunteers, children are divided into two age groups and participate in various activities throughout the school day such as science experiments, crafts and stories during faculty prep periods.

The event has since expanded district wide and to extended faculty family members if children fall within the age category.

Teachers and more than a dozen students will help look after the children.

Katelyn solicited help from teachers to lead experiments, crafts and other activities.

This year, students will spend time doing karate, playing games, visiting the planetarium, making crafts, conducting chemistry experiments and creating art projects. They will also have a mid-day pizza party and snacks before being returned to their parents and guardians.
