McKeesport Area’s musical ‘The Little Mermaid’ streaming tonight

A year after canceling an adventure “under the sea,” McKeesport Area High School musical lovers are finally getting a chance to flip their fins and be a part of an exciting ocean world.
While musical fans aren’t able to gather in-person for the fun, the high school’s virtual production of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories, starts streaming tonight.
Although the cast and pit orchestra is smaller this year as a result of social distancing and pandemic gathering limits, the student performers and musicians will present the classic tale of Ariel, who lives in a magic kingdom under the sea, and who longs to leave her ocean home to be part of the world above.
While wearing clear face masks, the cast got a chance last week to put on a live show for a limited audience of about 240 friends and relatives.
But to give the community and those who weren’t invited to the show a chance to jam to a hot crustacean band and see their favorite Disney sea creatures on stage, the district brought in Video Horizons to film a performance.
By going to www.showtix4u.com/event-details/48602, those who want to see the show and/or support the students and district can purchase a $20 virtual ticket to view the stream of the show on their favorite devices. The link can also be found on the McKeesport High School Musical Facebook page and on the MASD website.
Showtimes are 7 tonight and Friday and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday.
