Elizabeth Forward showed the effects of a 12-day COVID shutdown in Monday’s loss to Ringgold.
Lorenzo Glasser frustrated EF hitters, and a three-run fourth inning helped propel the Rams to a 4-0 victory at Ken Griffey Sr. Field in Section 3-4A play.
Glasser went six innings to pick up the win, striking out eight with three hits allowed. At the plate, Gianni Cantini went 3 for 3 with two RBIs.
“We played OK for not playing for a while,” Elizabeth Forward coach Frank Champ said. “We let one inning beat us today. We beat ourselves in that inning.”
Ringgold (6-7, 2-5) got things started in the fourth with a walk to Chad Behrendt, who moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Eli Callaway. Hunter Mamie reached safely after a dropped third strike by EF catcher Luke Alvarez. His throw got away and Behrendt scored for a 1-0 lead.
Courtesy runner Noah Winberg went to second on the wild throw, then scored on Cantini’s single to left.
“(Cantini) has been hitting the ball all year, I think he’s hitting over .400 now,” Ringgold coach Don Roberts said. “To be honest, I’ve seen four section teams and he’s the best hitting third baseman in the section in my opinion. He’s really grown as a baseball player in the last year.”
