Local residents, students, businesses, elected officials and legislators will do their part to “redd up” the Mon Valley this weekend, particularly in the streets of the Magic City.

On Thursday, the borough will sponsor a Charleroi Cleanup Day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Students from the Charleroi Area School District, the borough street crew and council will team up to clean up trash, plant flowers and take on other beautification projects around Charleroi. Cleaning supplies for the event, including trash bags, gloves and other tools will be provided at the Market House.

In coordination with the cleanup, an electronics collection will also take place at the Market House with proof of residency.

Street workers will be on hand throughout the day to clear trash bags as items are collected.

Council President Mark Alterici said the event is important for the community.

“I don’t think a lot of residents realize how much of a problem dirt, litter and garbage can create,” Alterici said. “Not only is it unsanitary and does not look good for our community, homes and businesses but it can create a problem with rodents and other pests that are not always easy to control.”
