Improvements are coming to White Oak municipal complex

White Oak council took action last week to make improvements at the borough municipal complex on Lincoln Way.

The council, borough Manager John Palyo and Engineer Ken Hillman have been discussing roofing, heating, ventilation and cooling issues and other concerns at the public works garage and borough building, which also houses the White Oak Police Department, at meetings over the past year or so.

With all members present, council last week passed four separate motions awarding contracts to the lowest bidder for the “Borough Facilities Project,” as was recommended by Hillman.

The first contact for general construction was awarded to BZ Construction for $248,000. During a workshop meeting April 12, Hillman explained that the contract “includes a good bit of concrete work — sidewalks, islands, fence work, general work inside of the borough building and then also over at the municipal garage.”

Hillman said he’s never worked with the company, but he checked with references, who report good work by the company.

A $434,797 roof replacement contract for the borough building and garage was awarded to Tennis Roofing and Asphalt. At the April 12 workshop, Hillman reminded the council that in the past, the company did roof replacement work at Heritage Hill Pool and roof patching at White Oak Athletic Association and the borough building. Hillman said the company has worked with him on other projects outside of the borough and he’s always been impressed with its roofing work.

The $411,447 HVAC and plumbing contract was awarded to Reno Brothers. Hillman said he’s working on a project in Elizabeth Borough and that “they’ve done a really good job.”
