Rostraver Township held its first Earth Day Community Cleanup Thursday, with an estimated ton of litter gathered from the roadsides.
Commissioner President John Lorenzo said the tire collection held at the municipal building Thursday was also successful.
“Our road crew and staff did an amazing job throughout the day picking up litter,” he said. “The guys stationed at the Municipal Building collected over 400 tires today.”
The township will cover the cost of proper disposal, and officials are happy that the tires won’t end up in streams or along roadsides in the future.
Lorenzo said the bags of trash collected from the roadside completely filled one dumpster, with enough left over to fill a second if it had been on site.
