2 local projects get state funding

A multi-million-dollar project will soon be underway along the banks of the Monongahela River.

The Commonwealth Financing Authority has awarded funding to six local transportation and park projects in Beaver, Greene and Washington counties, two of which are in the Mon Valley.

All the projects were funded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which is an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development that administers many of Pennsylvania’s economic development and community improvement programs.

Guttman Realty Company will receive $485,000 to improve facility modifications for water disposal at its terminal storage facility in Lower Speers.

The project, which includes a $1.3 million private investment, will provide upgrades to the facility that will allow the safe transportation of wastewater from the natural gas industry.

The facility, located along the Monongahela River, will be modified to accept waste water by truck.

That water will be stored in existing tanks, and when the project is complete, transported by barge to a treatment facility in Ohio.

Jamie Colecchi, director of operations for the Mon Valley Alliance, advocated for the project because of the MVA’s Regional Enterprise Zone established in September.
