Uncertainties over funding and expenses due to pandemic-related issues mean the Elizabeth Forward School Board will wait until May to review its preliminary budget for the 2021-22 school year.
Director of Finance Al Ragan said there are still too many variables to be considered to put together an accurate budget.
“We didn’t have a full year in 2020. When you budget, you annualize things. I need to look at every single number and try to figure out what a normal year would look like,” Ragan said. “I want to have an accurate budget. It affects taxpayers.”
One known element is the salary and benefit costs for the 326 district staff members for the coming school year: $32,633,000. That’s up by about $1 million from the current school year, Ragan said, and includes wages, taxes, insurances and medical benefits.
