Margaret “Peggy” Szymczyk, age 96, of Donora, died Thursday, April 15, 2021, at Monongahela Valley Hospital. She was born Sept. 21, 1924, in Donora, the daughter of the late Sam Mrzlak and the late Caroline Stukic Mrzlak. Peggy was a waitress at the American Croatian Club in Donora for many years. She was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Szymczyk; and two sisters, Ann Kasinec and Barbara Applegate. Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughter, Barbara Simchak and her husband John Munizza of Laurel, Md.; a granddaughter, Caroline (Brad) Palmer of Morgantown, W.Va.; a niece, Joyce (Jack) Zewan of Belle Vernon; and two nephews, Robert Applegate of Monongahela and Roger Applegate of Industry, Pa.; two grandnieces, Amy (Jack) Beal of Donora and Kim (Jason) Guthrie of Eighty Four; and two grand-nephews, Bradley Applegate and Brian Applegate of Industry, Pa. Arrangements have been entrusted to ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Carroll Township/Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900, where the family will receive friends from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2021. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2021, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at the Donora Campus of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish. Interment will follow at Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora. To be socially responsible during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will continue to limit the attendance to 75 people inside the funeral home at any given time. Guests are asked to obey social distancing guidelines and personal protection guidelines which include masks within the funeral home.
