The PPG Artificial Intelligence Pathways Institute and Teen Accelerator Program from Boys & Girls Club of Western Pennsylvania is expanding in the Mon Valley.
The state Department of Education and Gov. Tom Wolf this week announced $10.8 million in PAsmart advancing grants will be distributed to multiple partnerships across Pennsylvania to help support quality educational opportunities and experiences to K-12 students in computer science and STEM. State Rep. Austin Davis, D-McKeesport, said more than $970,000 of the funding is coming to programs in the Valley.
STEM refers to education models and methods that put an emphasis on science, technology, engineering and math.
“Workers in all types of jobs increasingly need to use computers and technology,” Wolf said. “In order to meet that demand, I launched PAsmart in 2018 to expand science and technology education.
“These grants will help our schools and communities to expand STEM and computer science education. That will strengthen our workforce, so businesses can grow, and workers have good jobs that can support a family.”
