Students are returning to classrooms in the Elizabeth Forward School District, with more students currently attending on-campus than at any other time this school year.
That’s according to superintendent Dr. Todd Keruskin, who reported that 87% of elementary students are back in the buildings, as are 85% of middle school students and 75% of high school students.
“This is the largest amount we’ve had back in person,” Keruskin said.
The district was able to switch to a completely virtual education system immediately after the pandemic closures began last March thanks to the electronic learning platform the district already had in place for its individualized educational plan utilizing iPads.
It was reported at the Committee of the Whole meeting Wednesday, that Elizabeth Forward has received a $47,000 grant through the Grable Foundation for the Summer Personalized Learning Program. On April 1, Elizabeth Forward began working with three surrounding school districts, Belle Vernon Area, South Allegheny and Clairton, and will operate the program through July 31.
