Charleroi selects new borough manager

Several weeks later than originally planned, Charleroi council selected a candidate to fill the position of borough manager.
After several weeks of accepting applications and conducting interviews, council believes they have found the right person for the job.
There were nine qualified applicants, Council President Mark Alterici said.
Council conducted interviews over the past few weeks and unanimously agreed to offer the job to a Pittsburgh man during a meeting Wednesday.
Alterici said he called the applicant to formally offer him the position and expects to learn if the borough’s offer was accepted today.
“This has been a long time coming,” Alterici said. “I am very happy and comfortable with our choice.”
The last time Charleroi had a borough manager was in 2014, and currently operates with a borough administrator and a secretary.
After nearly six years without someone in the role, council decided in December to take steps to fill the position. The Strategic Management Planning Program and an auditor each recommended a borough manager be hired.
Formerly known as the Early Intervention Program, the Strategic Management Planning Program helps communities develop comprehensive, multi-year financial plans and establish short- and long-term financial objectives.
Charleroi entered into the program in 2018 and last year developed a comprehensive plan for the borough that includes the creation of a borough manager position.
