“Don’t turn your back on the ballot box.”

With the primary election for local officials and school boards fast approaching, Lt. Gov. John Fetterman spoke to college students Monday about the importance of civic engagement.

Fetterman took a first-hand approach when speaking to students and others in attendance about the importance of nominating local officials.

The American Democracy Project at California University of Pennsylvania sponsored a webinar to encourage students to vote in the May primary election during the virtual event, which was a collaboration with Clarion and Edinboro universities.

“When I think back as college student 30 years ago, the clearest advice I can give, my elevator pitch, is to don’t be like I was,” Fetterman said. “Back then, I was not civically engaged. I was not that guy carefully talking about issues or making sure I was in on the latest election. The fact you are here, engaging and having these conversations, you are light years ahead of where I was when I was your age.”
