Residents in Carroll Township are tired of seeing trash littering the township’s streets.

So, they’re doing something about it.

On Saturday, the Victory Hill Social Hall, will host a spring cleaning event at 9 a.m. and all volunteers are welcome to attend.

The event will begin at the social hall at 25 Jones Lane and volunteers will pick up litter and trash along Route 837 headed to Monongahela and Donora. The cleanup will continue on Columbia Road before heading back to Victory Hill.

Resident Darla Ritscher, who is spearheading the event, said all supplies such as trash bags, vests and gloves will be provided and there is no time limit for how long volunteers will be cleaning the area.

“Many of us have concerns about trash in the area,” she said. “We hope people that live here take pride in themselves and their community.”

When the group returns to Victory Hill, all trash will be put into a township truck and taken to a proper dumpsite.

The event was canceled last year to due to COVID-19, but the event was held two years ago with 30 volunteers, Ritscher said.

She hopes even more volunteers participate this year.

“We had a really good turnout, but 30 people can only cleanup so much,” she said.

Carroll Township Police will also be on hand to provide traffic control for volunteers who are picking up trash roadside.

“(Chief) Paul Brand is wonderful,” Ritscher said.

Brand said two officers will be on site to provide traffic control to protect volunteers during the cleanup.

“They reached out to me in 2019 and they had a nice group of people turn out,” Brand said. “We provided them some safety from the motoring public. They really overfilled the truck.”
