Ringgold senior prom plans moving forward

The Ringgold School District continues to move forward with its plans to hold a senior prom this year.
School officials recently announced the prom will be held Thursday, May 27, but a location hasn’t been determined.
This year’s event will also only be a senior prom in an effort to comply with social distance and COVID-19 mitigation efforts. Underclassmen are permitted to attend, but only as the guest of a senior.
Ringgold Student Activities Director Natalie Hess and senior class officers are in the process of finalizing plans for the event.
“We’re restricted because of the restrictions of the venues,” board President Bill Stein said Wednesday. “We can’t have two classes and additional chaperones. We wanted to make this as normal as prom as possible. We’re still committed to that, and we felt this is the best approach. We’re limited because the restrictions are changing daily.”
In another sign that the district is loosening COVID restrictions, Stein said the prom precedes the district’s Kennywood Day, which is scheduled for Wednesday, June 2.
In April last year, the district announced the 2020 prom and graduation were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
