Funeral held for Washowich

The City of McKeesport said its final goodbye to former Mayor Lou “Coach Lou” Washowich, whose family observed a private funeral service with arrangements handled by the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory of White Oak before a procession through the downtown area.

“Mayor Washowich will be missed greatly,” Mayor Michael Cherepko said. “Our city will be indebted to him always, as we reflect on his many years of hard work and his genuine commitment to our community.”

The four-term mayor passed away at his home with his family by his side April 2. He was 81. 

Washowich also served for many years as a coach with the McKeesport Little Tigers.
