Residents in New Eagle are fed up with a recent rash of vandalism at Tubby Hall Park, and the New Eagle Community Action Group will soon decide what steps to take to help curb the destruction.
The group, which has operated the park for more than 25 years, will meet Thursday to discuss installing new dusk-to-dawn lights or even removing the overlook, a popular spot for DJs to connect their equipment. The park’s overlook deck and a Parnell Monuments marble bench were vandalized last week.
According to NECAG secretary Marilynn Taylor, the damage wasn’t the first time the park was targeted by vandals.
“There’s constantly been vandalism,” Taylor said of the park, which is used for graduation parties, reunions, picnics and weddings. “We’ve had to prosecute people. The police patrol it, but they can’t catch them all. It is very frustrating. We’re trying to make something nice for the community,”
According to Monongahela Police Sgt. Ryan Lenzi, surveillance footage shows the latest vandalism occurred early on the morning of March 26.
According to Lenzi, two white males on bicycles entered the park, vandalized the overlook and marble bench and rode around the park on their bikes before they left the scene. They were in the park for about 10 minutes, Lenzi said.
“After they did the damage, they rode their bikes around the parking area for a minute or two and then left,” Lenzi said.
