Easter celebrations will feel more like normal

For Christians across the United States, Easter services on Sunday will reflect an extra measure of joy as the nation experiences rising optimism after a year of pandemic.
Churches throughout the Mon Valley have in-person and online services planned.
The Diocese of Pittsburgh has urged parishes to require reservations for those who plan to attend Mass in person to ensure social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Even with such measures still in place, Easter will look much different than it did last year as the holiday fell just after the pandemic reached America.
“This year, we have the people and we are so grateful to welcome them to be able to pray, to be with us and yet be continuously aware of those who cannot be with us,” said Father Kevin Dominik of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish of Charleroi, Donora and Monongahela. “Keeping a safe distance is a main priority.”
Dominik said he and members of the parish staff are “truly appreciative of those who are coming (in person) and those who are being patient with us as they have to make a reservation to go to church.”
Dominik understands that it’s probably frustrating for some to have to make reservations to attend Mass and then to not be able to sit with everyone they want to be with once there.
“It is great to see the people and see their joy of being back in church,” Dominik said. “In fact, on Good Friday, I saw people in tears being able to come adore the cross and receive communion. Each of the days of the Holy Triduum are so different and yet full of meaning. We’re excited to offer that.”
