Richard B. Charlton – New Eagle

Richard B. Charlton, 85, of New Eagle, died Sunday, March 14, 2021, in his home. Born Jan. 25, 1936, in Millsboro, he was the son of William J. and Katherine Garner Charlton. After his graduation in 1954 from Monongahela High School, Dick attended the WCC Police Academy. Presbyterian by faith and a member of the Mon Valley Leathernecks, he served two years in the U.S. Marine Corps, Camp Lejeune, N.C., and worked several jobs throughout his lifetime, including 11 years on a riverboat with the J & L Steel Co., followed by the next 18 years for People’s Natural Gas Co. and from 1984-1997 as a police officer for the Borough of New Eagle and then until his retirement in 2009, security for the Ringgold School District. Surviving are three daughters, Kimmi Charlton, Jodi Brooks and Christy Haffly; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann (Doug) Roberts of Rostraver Township and Linda Fritz of Ohio; a niece, Leslie Charlton; two nephews, David Charlton of Austin, Texas, and Matthew Charlton of Illinois; good friends, Ron and Ellen Palmer of New Eagle; his mailman, John Porter of Bethel Park; and the grocery lady, Karen Young. Preceding him in death were his wife, Melanie M. Koch Charlton, who died in 1989; three brothers, William R. “Bib,” John W. and James G. Charlton. On behalf of his family they would like to thank Community LIFE for their exceptional care and compassion. Friends will be received at MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, 724-258-6767, from 10 to noon Friday, March 26, 2021, where services will begin at noon with Pastor Josh Green officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Ginger Hill, with military honors conducted by the Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad. In order to be compliant with our state guidelines, masks must be worn and social distancing be maintained.
