William A. Smith – Belle Vernon

William A. Smith, 73, of Fairhope, Belle Vernon, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 18, 2021, in Monongahela Valley Hospital. A son of the late James R. and Anna Spirko Smith, he was born April 1, 1947, in North Charleroi. A lifelong resident of Fairhope, William was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Vietnam, where he received a Purple Heart for injuries received in battle. William was Catholic by faith and a member of American Legion Post 22 in Charleroi and Amvets in Hopwood. He retired in 2008 from Ringgold School District after working more than 17 years in the food service department. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed casinos and bingo. Survivors include his wife, Susan A. Smith; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jennifer and Peter Moldovan of Charleroi and Amy Smith of Monessen; two sons, Barry Smith of Fairhope and Tony Smith of Monessen; five grandchildren, Breanna Patrick and fiancé Ryan Wells, Aidan Smith, Sophie Smith, Eric Kerr and Preston Wells; three sisters, Betty (Frank) Bartolozzi of Dunlevy, Patty Haywood of Donora and Mary Jane (Curt) Lessman of Charleroi; two brothers, James R. (Louise) Smith of Hopwood and David Smith of Monongahela; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-5300, www.FergusonFuneralHomeandCrematory.com. Funeral services will be in the funeral home at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2021, with Father James Bump officiating. Interment will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Face masks are required in the funeral home.
