It’s a parade without floats, a hunt without searching and Easter Bunny visits without contact, but that won’t make the 2021 Elizabeth Township Easter Egg Parade any less festive.
Township staff members are filling more than 10,000 plastic eggs with candy and treats, then placing them into plastic bucket Easter baskets to be placed safely into the trunks of cars driving under the canopy of the Elizabeth Forward Middle School. The event will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. March 27.
Township manager Greg Butler said the drive-up parade will take the place of a more traditional Easter egg hunt.
“We thought it was more safe, with minimal contact,” he said. “We saw that some of the other communities were doing it that way.”
The township canceled its Christmas celebration because of the pandemic, and Butler said officials felt it was time to offer some activity for children again.
“It’s an outdoor event and the weather is changing,” he said. “We thought it was time to snap out of last year.”
