Businesses in the hospitality industry may receive more help in the coming weeks as local counties begin to allocate funding through the COVID-19 Hospitality Industry Recovery Program.
Gov. Tom Wolf announced the program in February, which will allocate $145 million in block grant funds to hospitality industry businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and will require each county to establish grant programs for eligible businesses.
The grants will be awarded in $5,000 increments not to exceed $50,000 per business and will be administered through a Certified Economic Development Organization or Community Development Financial Institution in each county.
Applications started being processed across the state on Monday, and millions are available to businesses in the Mon Valley.
Allocations vary by county and were determined based on population.
Allegheny received the second highest allotment in the state, about $13.7 million, just behind Philadelphia that received $17.9 million.
