Former Elizabeth Forward standout and UMass sophomore Tre Mitchell will transfer from the program.

Mitchell, a 6-9 center, announced his intentions via his Twitter page Monday.

“After extensive thought and conversations with my family, I’ve decided that at this juncture, I’m going to weigh every option and have entered my name into the transfer portal,” Mitchell’s post said.

Mitchell, who played under former head coach Sam Kosanovich during his time with the Warriors, attended Woodstock Academy in Connecticut after his sophomore season at EF.

As a sophomore this past season, Mitchell put up big numbers for UMass, averaging 18.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. He scored 31 points and collected 11 rebounds in this year’s season opener against Northeastern and netted 30 points against Saint Louis in the Atlantic 10 tournament on March 5.

Mitchell’s signature performance of the season came against La Salle on Dec. 16 as he scored a season-high 37 points. He was 13 of 17 from the field and converted 9 of 14 free throw attempts.
