Community shows appreciation for Charleroi Area employees

Community members have stepped up to adopt teachers and staff members in the Charleroi Area School District who have worked under stressful circumstances during a year unlike anything they had ever experienced.

School board member Antonia Pellegrini spearheaded the effort and was quickly joined by members of the community to support it.

“I had been trying to come up with something I could do to show how much we appreciate our teachers,” she said. “I had seen the adopt an ER nurse fundraisers as well as other essential workers, so I adapted it for our school.”

She got creative and prepared to reach into her own pocket to make sure no teacher was left out.

“I wasn’t too worried because I knew that our teachers and entire staff are well supported by our community,” she said. “I noticed this from the many years I was in charge of the Teacher Appreciation Week for the PTA. I knew many of my friends were looking for a way to show appreciation for all the teachers have done to try and educate our children during this pandemic.”

It took two days to get all 105 teachers throughout the district campus adopted. With Easter fast approaching, each teacher will receive a ceramic egg cooker.

“I posted on Facebook a picture and a little note with wording that said about showing our teachers what an egg-cellent job they do, tying in the ceramic egg cooker with the Easter holiday coming up,” Pellegrini said. “I continually updated the post with the amount of teachers left to be adopted, and the response was overwhelming.”
