Some senior projects are done as a graduation requirement, but a senior at California Area High School did hers to save lives.
Jayme Gregg, the daughter of Shellie and James Gregg of Elco, is raising funds to hand out smoke detectors in her community. The project is being done as part of her Honors English 12 class, which is renovating the courtyard at the high school as a group project.
“The class as a whole is working on the courtyard, but some of us are also working on projects on our own,” Gregg said.
Her father is involved with the Roscoe Volunteer Fire Department, and her future plans include studying nursing at Robert Morris University. So health and fire safety came to mind when Gregg was developing her senior project idea.
“With COVID-19, with people losing their sense of smell, it’s really important to have smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors,” she said.
