White Oak: Heritage Hill pool will be open this year

Anyone hoping to cool off at a community pool this summer is in luck.

White Oak plans to open the Heritage Hill Park Pool on Memorial Day.

Councilman George Pambacas announced at Monday’s meeting that in addition to season passes, monthly passes will be offered for this year’s pool season.

Councilwoman Julie Opferman, chair of the Parks and Recreation Committee, announced in January the pool is nixing daily passes and that only resident and non-resident season passes will be sold this year.

Borough Manager John Palyo said the move was made in anticipation of the possibility of needing to conduct contact tracing if there were to be an outbreak or exposure of COVID-19 connected to the pool.

“The concept of the pass is that it’s something we can scan in and out,” he said. “We have names, addresses, contact information. In case something would occur, we have the ability to do contact tracing.”

Season passes will cost $60 for residents and $75 for non-residents. White Oak senior citizens 65 and older pay $30 for a season pass, while non-resident senior citizens pay $60.

Palyo on Monday said the borough will soon announce pre-sales events to allow anyone wanting to purchase a pass to do so in advance and in a socially distanced environment at the borough building.
