After three seasons at the helm, McKeesport boys basketball coach Kevin Kovach announced he is resigning as the head of the Tigers program.
Kovach said he informed athletic director Charley Kiss of his decision.
“I did officially notify the athletic director today,” Kovach said. “This is something I’ve been milling around with the last two or three weeks. We did a lot that I’m really proud of for the program.”
In his three seasons, Kovach led the Tigers to a 30-30 overall record with a 19-12 mark in section games.
“I wanted them to be able to start their hiring process early,” Kovach said. “That’s why I made the decision now.
“We have a lot to be proud of. The basketball banquets came back, the kids have letterman jackets again, new uniforms and we were able to get them some Nike stuff. We just really never clicked on the court. I brought kind of a new age of McKeesport basketball and was asking them to do things that they may not have been used to doing. I just thought we’d be farther along than we are at this point.”
