This week Donora Council voted to extend several fee deadlines in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Council approved extending the discount period for 2021 garbage bills and landlord rental registration fees until April 30.

It also voted to extend the payment deadline for the mechanical device tax until June 30.

The borough office is closed to the public due to the pandemic, but residents can mail payments, pay online at donoraboro.org or place payments in the secured mail slot in the middle doors in the back of the building near the parking garage.

Council also heard this week from the Rev. Rhonda Higgins, who is the Second Street Community Garden manager.

Garden beds are available for the 2021 season by contacting Higgins at pastorrhon@yahoo.com.

Participants will be invited to attend a gardening session to learn about sustainable garden practices based on research from the Penn State Extension.

Higgins said everyone will have to follow CDC guidelines and they will only have a few people at the gardens at a time, on a schedule. They will have to wear masks.

Higgins said the master gardeners at Penn State Extension have some good plans for the gardening boxes this year.
