Port Authority of Allegheny County has announced upcoming “minor service adjustments” for some routes in the Mon Valley as a result of a PennDOT bridge project in McKeesport.
Spokesman Adam Brandolph said the Port Authority will continue to operate on reduced schedules due to the COVID-19 pandemic, adding that minor service adjustments are being made in the Valley and to six bus stops in Pittsburgh’s Friendship area.
Brandolph said adjustments include schedule changes to improve on-time performance and detours to accommodate planned construction projects.
Mon Valley adjustments
Westbound bus routes 55-Glassport, 56-Lincoln Place and 59-Mon Valley will use the 15th Street Bridge in McKeesport in anticipation of the next phase of construction of PennDOT’s Jerome Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project.
Beginning March 21, Westbound route 55, 56 and 59 buses coming from downtown McKeesport will cross over the 15th Street Bridge, which spans the Monongahela River and connects McKeesport to Port Vue, Liberty Borough and a road leading to the city’s 10th Ward.
The bus will then travel down River Road and through the 10th Ward neighborhood on Atlantic Avenue, before taking Ramp #2 to return to the regular route on Fifth Avenue.
Port Authority’s website states the following stops will be temporarily discontinued through the duration of this construction phase:
Lysle Blvd at Market:
• W. Fifth Ave. at Ramp #1.
• W. Fifth Ave. at Rebecca.
• W. Fifth Ave. at Perry.
• W. Fifth Ave. at Ramp #2A.
A temporary stop will be established at Ramp #2 at West Fifth Avenue.
Eastbound routes will continue to use the Jerome Street Bridge throughout construction.
A complete list of the changes can be found at www.PortAuthority.org/ServiceUpdates. Schedules for the McKeesport Flyer, known as the P7, have recently been adjusted and some trip times have changed to improve on-time performance.
