Charleroi OKs demolition of leaning house

A vacant house in Charleroi that has caused concerns for neighboring property owners will be torn down.
During an agenda meeting Wednesday, Charleroi council opened a bid for about $9,000 to demolish the property at 512 Washington Ave.
That’s likely good news for Frank and Dolores Coppi, who have owned the house next door, at 514 Washington Ave., since 1998.
The Coppi’s brought the issue up to council nearly a year ago in fear the vacant house would soon fall on their rental property, which is currently home to several families.
Dolores Coppi said she addressed council last December as cracks started to appear in the sidewalk in front of her property and an overgrown tree began to lean closer to her garage.
Those issues were addressed by Charleroi code enforcement, but the house continued to shift.
In October, her attorney Thomas Kostolansky sent council members a letter requesting they take steps to have the property owners fix the property, but confusion about who owned the property delayed the demolition process.
