Warriors finish another successful bowling season

The Elizabeth Forward girls bowling team has become accustomed to success over its three years of existence.

The Warriors, who went 10-0 this season and won their third consecutive section championship, have yet to lose a match over the past three seasons, compiling a perfect 30-0 mark under head coach John Walsh.

“We’ve lost a few girls over the years but we have been able to plug new ones right in,” Walsh said. “Sometimes it’s hard doing that, but if a kid is coachable, then the sky is the limit.”

This season, EF’s roster consisted of just six bowlers, including seniors Brooke Geczi and Jordan Cochenour, and junior captain Brooke Good. Three freshmen joined the high school ranks as well in Megan Brown, Penelope Hudson and Kaylee Christeson, who advanced to the WPIBL singles championship match Thursday where she fell to Burrell’s No. 4 seed Lydia Flanagan, 175-159.

En route to her appearance in the championship match, Christeson, the No. 6 seed in the six-bowler bracket, defeated McKeesport’s Melissa Malackany, the No. 3 seed, (160-157) in the quarterfinals. Christeson went on to upset No. 2 seed Kaylee Houy of Blackhawk, 191-159, in the semifinals.

“It was awesome to watch,” Walsh said. “I preach to the kids all the time, I say, ‘All you have to do is get to the championship. Once you get there, it can be anybody’s game.’ Kaylee was just on and once she got into the bracket, she played like she had nothing to lose.”
