Bargain shoppers, thrifters and treasure hunters throughout the Mon Valley and beyond received good news over the weekend.
The Monongahela Area Chamber of Commerce announced it will host the 23rd annual Fleatique on the Mon from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 5.
The annual event is held the first Saturday in June and October, although last June’s event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event is held along the city’s Main Street, and takes place rain or shine. Parking and admission is free.
Monongahela Area Chamber of Commerce Vice President Michelle DeHosse said she was shocked at the turnout during October’s fleatique and expects another large crowd this year.
“The turnout was much larger in October than any one I’ve ever seen,” DeHosse said. “People really just wanted to get out and do anything.”
Along with Monongahela’s stores and restaurants being open, craft vendors and food trucks will be at Chess Park, and Third Street will be closed to allow for the large number of antique dealers and flea market vendors.
“There will be clothing, dishes, purses, whatever they want to sell,” DeHosse said. “It’s a little bit of everything, and we bill it as that.”
