A dominant second half and near perfection from the free throw line led Our Lady of the Sacred Heart to a 67-51 win over South Allegheny Saturday night.
South Allegheny held a two-point lead at halftime, but turnovers and offensive struggles plagued the second half for the Gladiators. The Chargers were able to close out the win, largely from the charity stripe.
“In the third quarter, we turned the ball over at least five times in the early going,” said Gladiators head coach Tony DiCenzo.
“We talked about turnovers leading to their transition game and live-ball turnovers leading to runs to easy baskets. We just didn’t take care of the ball and get quality shots and that allowed them to get their lead.”
The first quarter was a balanced back-and-forth contest with Jake DiMichele scoring 10 points for OLSH and Antonio Epps putting up nine for South Allegheny. The Chargers led 19-17 as the quarter ended.
In the second, the Gladiators outscored OLSH, 12-8, behind seven points from Bryce Epps and held a 29-27 halftime lead.
But the tide turned in the second half. Shots stopped falling for the Gladiators, and the Chargers were lighting it up on both offense and defense.
