Filling the Grand Theatre or the Mon River Arts studio space in downtown Elizabeth to capacity for a hit show isn’t possible right now because of COVID-19 restrictions and precautions.

But that isn’t stopping the crew at Mon River Arts from giving area children and adults access to arts education.

Youth dance and theater classes

Mon River Arts is looking for young theater and dance lovers who are eager to get back into the studio.

The nonprofit organization is offering “Find Your Glow with MRA” spring theater and dance classes, also known as the #GlowUpWithMRA program.

“For kids, this is an excellent way to learn acting, singing and dancing,” said MRA Executive Director Lori Kolodziej, adding that all classes are taught by “reputable educators” who have degrees.

Youth classes run from March 1 through May 1.

For young theater lovers, the Rising Stars class, which will be 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. each Monday, is for children ages 5 to 7 and costs $150. Students will benefit from a musical theater class focusing on creative movement and fun, according to the MRA board.

The Stageplayers class, slated for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursdays, costs $200 and is for kids ages 8 to 12. Students will receive intermediate-level theater instruction and group vocal instruction. Students will focus on developing acting skills and confidence.

The Showstoppers class costs $250 and is for teenagers ages 13 to 17. Students, who will attend class from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, will participate in an advanced musical theater class focusing on building the “triple threat qualities,” which are acting, vocals and dance, according to MRA.
