Charleroi extends win streak by pummeling Falcons

Charleroi managed to win its third straight game in convincing fashion Saturday afternoon, rolling past visiting Brownsville, 78-38, in Section 4-3A.

Will Wagner compiled a double-double with a game-high 25 points and 11 rebounds. Jake Caruso and Zack Usher had 12 points each as the Charleroi starters played just over a half.

Charleroi (10-5, 7-3) wasted little time in putting away the Falcons (3-7, 2-5), outscoring them 26-8 and outrebounding them by an 11-1 margin in the first quarter. It was a stark contrast from the night before in which the Cougars struggled.

“We didn’t play very well (Friday night) but we made up for it today,” Charleroi head coach Bill Wiltz said. “We were up 15 at halftime (Friday) and then we just played even with them in the second half. That’s not what a good team does; a good team keeps getting after it and we did that tonight.”

The Cougars took control with an early 15-0 run — in which Wagner scored 11 points — to take a 17-2 lead. The advantage grew to 26-8 lead after eight minutes.

The second quarter wasn’t much better for Brownsville as the Falcons were once again held to just eight points while the Cougars scored 24.
